if you get a version mismatch error search for other cygwin1.dll and delete them
in order to see the error and if your on windows run command prompt and run cygwin.bat through it it will show what the error is

I've installed the Cygwin on a previous windows, but not on the windows disk. So I still have everything except the start-menu entry.
Does cygwin make register entries too then?
This is what I get: D:\Cygwin>cygwin.bat bash.exe: warning: could not find /tmp, please create! bash-3.00$ mkdir blaat bash: mkdir: command not found

No, I can't remember the server. Made this cygwin install like 14 days ago.
Only thing I did was remove my windows from my C disk. Doesn't the thing has a special command embedded in the start-menu entry?

Cygwin DOES add register entries, maybe they are important. Could someone please take a look in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SoftWare\Cygnus Solutions\

I thought that was outdated? No?
Edit: I tried the SDK sample and it said no rule to make target
