I've had this thought and I don't know where else to bring it up so I figured I'd bring it up here and maybe get some feedback.

I was thinking that the PSP, like any other system, is just a collection of chips and devices connected in a specific way in order to elicit a specific behavior.  Now on the PC it's possible to add new chipsets via PCI, etc.  So I had this idea that it would be most extremely awesome to sit down and dig into the functionality of the PSP and figure out a way to essentially make a PCI card out of it.  The PC could then access it via software in such a way that the devices on the PSP unit (buttons, UMD, ms0, flash, etc) would be instead managed by the PC software.

This would essentially provide the perfect dev platform, since the software would be run directly from the hard disk and display on the PC monitor although the PSP itself would be doing all of the actual processing.

I know it would be a ridiculously herculean task, and I have neither the time nor money to invest in it, but it intrigues the crap out of me nevertheless.  I reckon it's something that's possible, but would require some really serious expertise in terms of electronics.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this for the PSP or any other system?  Even doing this with an Atari 2600 would be pretty neat.

It's really great Idea!Though it is possible to make it but the work is tough and needs lots of time and money for development.

PSPLink + remotejoy = what you want, basically

I'm afraid you won't be able to turn the PSP into an PCI card though. That's like trying to put a toaster into your refrigerator in order to make it automatically put the butter and marmalade on your hot toast.

Also possible, and probably equally silly, but I just like the idea of it.

I mean it's just a matter of creating an interface for the I/O and then writing the drivers to give the emulator access to the hardware, yes?

I dunno what the bus is like on a PCI card (for example) but I'd imagine it could handle just the I/O.  I mean it would require a complete understanding of the chipset of course, but I think it could be done.

I'm not proposing to do it.  I'm just sort of pipe dreaming here.
