I finally made a Pandora's Battery and Magic Memorystick. The cool thing is that I was able to create one successfully the first time and upgrade 3 PSPs to 3.90 M33. The bad news is that it doesn't work on my really old PSP that got bricked back in '05. The 3.90 M33 installation hangs at:

Formatting flash1...

My motherboard is a TA-79 (the last livinig ancient), so I'm wondering if my model is just too old maybe? Possibly not, but this is the only bricked PSP I could test it on.

Make sure you have the GAME folder kernel set to 1.50 in recovery mode and it should work.

This is on a 1.5 PSP that was bricked 2 years ago. I can't really set anything. The Pandora application does start up, it just freezes at the second flash formatting phase.

this happened with a psp 1000 that I tried fixing yesterday, it hanged a bit earlier though. I just retried about 10 times (lol) and it decided to work.

did you use hellcats pandora install method?
if so
i take it your installing 3.90M33-3 on a phat psp

well i had the same problem!
turns out you need to insert your memory card
turn on wi-fi(don't know why? worked for me!)
then put the battery(hold up berfore you put battery in if you used dc)
and press x
and it will start formatting
then install it to the psp

Hope this helps Exclamation
 Very Happy

this is old... but if the above didn't work, anyone having a problem with ur psp hanging when something is trying to format a flash, it usually means u have to repartition the Lflash.
repartitioning is different from formatting.

u can use nand tool to repartition.

I know I'm a bit late to my own party on this threa, but thank you. I'll have to try that out soon. Haha, the PSP is about 4 years old now. Amazing how the time flies.

If that doesn't work you can try installing timemachine. It will start a firmware from the Memorystick
