I was thinking that there is no point of starting a new topic in any category just for asking a simple small question. For example, if someone were to ask this (under C/C++): Topic name: quick question. Body: Hi I just have a quick question, is printf an actual function? (for example Wink) I really don't see any need to start a new topic for such a small question. Maybe we can have a quick-question chat for every (maybe not every) Category, so that you won't see 1000 new threads every day in the C/C++ or Lua or any other Category. In the chat you can just type the question and send it and the question would appear like so (every registered person can view it)

Randomguy: Hi how do you rotate a cube?

Omar-C++: Is printf an actual function?

Someotherguy: Yes, and please use google!

bla: bla bla

And etc, I would really like to see something like this.. Just a thought.

I hate that monolithic help thread that QJ has.  Sure you can search the forum for a question and it will point you to that thread, but who wants to read through all 56254645 pages of people asking for help and replies just to find the answer you want.  If each question has its own thread, properly titled, its easy to find what you need.

If you want answers to quick questions like that then use the IRC channel, as for cutting down the amount of crap in other sections, I don't think it would work as most people wouldn't take the time to read the rules and use the quick questions section.

What flatmush said^

The people that have to ask questions won't be able to tell if it's a quick question or a long one, that's why they're asking in the first place Wink

Also, these 'quick questions' often lead to some good dev to dev discussion too.

I also disagree with it only becuase it would be a ***** to search through. However I wouldn't disagree to something like what IWN sugested with the discusion stuff, but then again its starting to sound more like IRC. Neutral

I dislike the idea, it'd be hard to search and even when it does get a bit busy with a bunch of quick questions all around, they soon fall off the screen because they are solved quickly.
Having well titled and explained problems/questions is a great thing, it almost turns the search function into a help database.

i think it's a good idea, mostly because i have a lot of "quick" questions being the lua n00b that i am. And I don't like to feel like i'm bothering peope by starting new topics whenever i have a question that can be answered in one reply. If someone is somewhat experienced at what they're doing, they should be able to tell the difference between a quick question and a general one.

general: how do i animate somthing?

quick: whats wrong with my animation function? (pastes code)

seems easy enough, and if it turns out to be a nightmare searching for a previously asked question, then just ask one over again. They are quick questions after all.

Which will end up by you being told that it's been answered before and to use the search function.

What I like to see is a section where useful threads can be moved to such as the one for installing SDL. It will keep all the 'decent' information in one place to browse.

Yes that's what I'm trying to say, all the useful threads(Questions that have been answered with full explanation/maybe a tutorial of any category can be stored in the category, and then you have those quick question(easy or complicated), which can be stored somewhere else. Like I said this was just a thought.
