The challenges in this thread are designed to improve your coding skills, either by having a go at the current challenge yourself, or by learning from other peoples attempts. These challenges are both educational and fun!

Challenges are set regularly, and everyone is welcome to participate, whether you're a complete novice or an advanced programmer. These challenges are about coding techniques. The idea isn't necessarily to create a fully fledged game - the challenge may concentrate on a particular area of game design, and should therefore be achievable within a matter of days.

There are some rules you need to know about. Firstly, your entry must be written in C++/C without the use of any external media.

There are 10 rules in total.

1. Anybody may enter any challenge, as many times as they like, so long as all code is written in C++/C.

2. No external media is allowed – No Images, Music, Video, etc. Graphics etc. produced in the code is allowed though.

3. The person who wins the current challenge becomes the next challenge setter.

4. The challenge setter is the judge for the current challenge, and must select a winner and a runner up.

5. The challenge setter may enter, but may not judge him/herself the winner.

6. The challenge setter will set the time limit according to difficulty. The challenge setter may extend the deadline by 24 hours if there is a very good reason, but extensions must not be made during the final 24 hours of the challenge.

7. If nobody enters within the time limit, the challenge setter must set a new challenge.

8. If the challenge setter fails to judge entries or set a new challenge within 24 hours of the deadline, responsibility for judging and setting a new challenge will pass to the previous runner up. If that person also fails to act promptly, entrants may vote for a winner and new challenge.

9. You may use code from any other entries within the challenges thread for your current entry, so long as you improve upon it in some way and give credit.

10. All of your source code must be included.

Challenge 01

Write a card game of your choice. (ex. Blackjack, Poker, Ect.)
For less advanced users i would suggest Blackjack (That was the first game i did.)

Yeah I might too. I play alot of online Omaha, wouldn't mind trying to make a simple omaha game.

Dont forget to check for bin2c'd items in the code cuz i consider that as external media. I would have a go at this but at the moment i cant. Maybe in a month or two when my life slows down.

this may be a dumb question but this should be coded to run on the psp platform right?

Nice idea, but I would suggest that you make the challenge a little more open, I don't know that making card games would appeal to many people.

Nice idea, but I would suggest that you make the challenge a little more open, I don't know that making card games would appeal to many people.

See you have to make these things more appealing to ever get a chance of them catching on.
