That means there is an error opening the file 'settings/state.fes', the file may be set to read-only or something, just delete it and it should all work again.
thx ill try it, by the way little comment the keyboard panel is a tiny bit to small but i still think this is a great apps |

Yeah, I decided that most people know the qwerty keyboard anyway so they probs wont spend much time examining it, also I wanted to maximize the space for the actual text to fit in as even now you have to scroll horizontally for most text files.

Yeah, I realized that, I am making a new release of FlatEdit then whazilla/MegaROM can create an IR plug-in (because I am too lazy to), so I will fix all that in the next version, also the settings files don't work in that version because I missed out 2 lines in the settings loading code.

It does save on exit, it just doesn't overwrite the settings file, however it only saves when you exit using the menu, I guess I'd have to use callbacks or something to make it save when you exit using the HOME button, but I don't know.
